B. Spring 2011

i. Chris will be reserving the room with AHEC (Edit: Room reserved for Feb. 1^st from 4:30-9:30. Burghardt which is 6^th floor of Tivoli)

ii. Current date set is Feb. 1^st at 4:00-8:00 and we need as many members present as possible.

iii. Will be outlining the kick-off meeting with Sadie during break.

C. Voting

i. Vote taken (by present members and officers) for the creation of a point system. Vote passed.

D. Closing

i. Next meeting to be held at Metropolis at 2:00PM on Tuesday December 21st. This will be a “working” where we will create the point system, outline the kick-off meeting, and anything else that needs to be done.

Sigma Tau Delta is holding a Wednesday breakfast Bake Sale.

We'll be in the West Classroom building from 7:30am to 10am providing pastries for the on-the-run student on the 11th and the 18th.

And the week of Valentines Day, look for our posters. We'll be running our parchment poetry fundraiser, providing you the finest verse the language has to offer, for you to offer your own muse.

Andrew Moser will be investigating opportunities on the corporate side,

The potential exists for 'percentage days' and other like events that could be used as fundraising activities along with sponsorship and charitable donations.

Roberto Martinez will be leading on departmental and on-campus fundraising activities.

We'll be posting updates weekly regarding progress.

Hello, Sigma Tau Delta! The 2008-09 year looks to be a year of rejuvenation for Metro State Sigma Tau Delta , Alpha Psi - among many other projects, we hope to involve members more fully with open meetings and wider communication. This includes posting minutes for meetings up here on this darn board.

As secretary, my position with Sigma Tau Delta is largely of organization. Part of my responsibilities (in case you, yourself, might be interested in my position next year :) ) is to take notes during meetings and organize them into semi-coherant lists of what we discussed. In the interest of open disclosure, I've attached these notes to the rear of this post.

Further, there will be an open member's meeting on September 2nd. We encourage all members of Sigma Tau Delta looking to do more with their membership to take a step on over.

And, for you Sigma Tau Deltans worried about conferencing in the coming year, submissions are canonically due at the end of November. Be thinking about what writing you'd like to submit! Metro usually has a strong showing and we'd never want to disappoint. :)

General Meetings - What should they be like?
DR. WEBER: Bringing motions to the table by the lower members. Officers are supposed to bring motions to the table for lesser Members. They create the proposals and then pass it along.

The regular meeting, etc; Do people really want to do this?

Without bouncing ideas off of the members there's a chance to have something without member support, which means that members will again feel alienated.

JESSICA: There is a habit of friend-only communication, previously instilled from former generations.

We will be reorganizing schedules, as the first member meeting lands in DNC. It will actually occur the week after DNC, with the next Officer Only meeting being September 7th.

Motion to accept Robert's Rules of Order - approved.

Vice President's Report.

Proposal for more community and growth oriented activities.
Proposal for Constitution creation or revision.

A brief discussion of the roles of Advisor - an Advisor ought be Advice.

TRINA: There used to be a banquet for new members. Swearing in - etc.

Sigma Tau Delta Booksale...CANCELED!

Yes, the semi-annual Sigma Tau Delta Booksale has been canceled!

A moment of silence, please.

...

Now: on to defending our decision! Long story short, the transportation of books to campus was a logistical nightmare. For years, Sigma Tau Delta had an office in the English Department, making it easy to store books on campus and then set up the sale in just a couple of hours. This year we lost the office, and have had to keep all the books off-campus (a source of stress in and of itself, believe us!). Because of this, the booksale was quickly becoming more work than it was worth. We have had some interest from book re-sellers, and have decided to further pursue this sort of option in the future.

It is a sad moment, ending such a long-standing tradition, however, the sale was no longer a practical option. Sigma Tau Delta has experienced a re-birth of sorts this year, with all new officers and advisors. We don't want to forget where we came from, but we need to look to the future as well. We already have some exciting plans brewing for the very near future, paving the way for a whole new set of traditions!

Those members who were planning on helping out at the booksale to help with funding for their trip to the convention: don't worry! We are working on a way for you to still help with the process. We will be in touch very soon.

Sigma Tau Delta Celebrates National Book Banning Week

National Book Banning Week was September 29th through October 6th. Sigma Tau Delta and Phi Alpha Theta hosted events in the Auraria Library during that time. There were smut readings, discussions and informative displays that educated the public about banned books. A large poster was placed in the library for others to look at which featured quotes and informative tidbits about bookbanning.

The Poetry Scroll

"Denver's Longest Poem" is coming to Auraria. The "Poe Torrah," is a
poetry scroll that was built by the mayors staff. Denver's Poet
Laureate, Chris Ransick, in conjunction with the mayor's office
created the scroll with intent to get people to actively pursue,
create, and contemplate poetry as a living artform. Upon its
completion, the scroll will be housed in some sort of public building,
but before that it will be making a stop here at Auraria.

The scroll will be displayed at a table by the flagpole on Thursday,
October 4, from 9:45am-5:00pm and Friday October 5 from 9:45am-
3:00pm. We would like to encourage all Auraria students to
participate by writing their poetry on the scroll. We also want to
remind all writers that the scroll may be housed in a public venue,
such as a school, and to please keep the content appropriate to all
ages.

Please stay tuned for news about the Poetry Scroll, which will be brought to the MSCD campus by Chris Ransick, Denver's Poet Laureate. The date for its arrival is still TBA, but tentatively set in the first week of October (possibly Friday October 5 th). The scroll is Ransick's project to get everyone writing the longest poem ever. Ransick will be on campus on October 5th, as well.
